In my journey to become a better consultant, I’m reading “Now you see it: Simple Visualization Techniques for Quantitative Analysis,” by Stephen Few. Below are a few traits he listed for a good analyst:
- Interested
- Curious
- Self-motivated
- Open-minded and flexible
- Imaginative
- Skeptical
- Aware of what’s worthwhile
- Methodical
- Capable of spotting patterns
- Analytical
- Synthetical
- Familiar with the data
- Skilled in the practices of data analysis

Daniel Hoang is a Manager at IntelliBridge Partners, the consulting arm of Macias Gini & O’Connell LLP, a West Coast accounting, audit, tax, and business consulting firm.
